COMPANY

Barbary Coast Productions is a dynamic television production company that specializes in designing and producing documentary programming for national cable distribution. Our storytelling focuses primarily on global outdoors adventure travel, engaging cuisine and cooking adventures, and historical and cultural exploration. Throughout our many series concepts, a strong emphasis is placed on environmental conservation, green living, responsible travel, organic foods and sustainable practices.

The company was founded in 2000 by Jim Schlosser, a veteran producer of outdoor adventure programming for Outdoor Life Network (now Versus Network), SpeedVision, ESPN and ESPN2. Over the past two decades, Jim has produced over 200 individual shows in locations around the world, ranging from documentary to cinema-verite to live global sporting events, such as the Tour de France, the Louis Vuitton Cup and the Raid Gauloises Adventure Race. Over the years he has successfully captured stories in Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, Italy, England, Scotland, France, Norway, Canada, Vietnam, New Zealand, Alaska and a variety of locations across the United States.

Barbary Coast Productions prides itself on its ability to venture where few other production companies dare to tread. Sharing adventurous destinations with our viewers means braving the elements of an unpredictable workplace: winding mule trails, trackless swamps, frozen peaks, isolated coral reefs, vast desert landscapes. For our efforts, we have been rewarded with the Outdoor Writers Association of California's top TV show for two years running, as well as numerous "Excellence in Craft" awards from the Outdoor Writers Association of America.
